New British Inventors: Inside Heatherwick Studio was an international touring exhibition presented by the British Council and curated by Kate Goodwin as part of the GREAT Britain campaign. Drawing from 20 years of work, it featured a wide range of projects that have captured the popular imagination.

The concept takes inspiration from the informal arrangement of pages in pin-up critiques – a vital practice in the studio’s creative process. The design was also a response to the unique spatial differences of multiple venues.

A modular system of table tops and trestles allowed surfaces to overlap, creating a dialogue between objects and responding to each unique project on show. The content displayed ranged from sketches and test pieces to finished models and large-scale objects. This system was also easily adapted to the diverse venues encountered on the tour.

The three main sections of the exhibition were defined using large panels of the same specification as the table elements, ensuring a singular material language throughout.

Our visual identity reinforced the show’s focus on process. The modular title devices allowed for varying compositions specific to each dual-language requirement.
